People Plus is celebrating their 50th “Golden” Anniversary this year and will kick off their Music in April fundraiser in April with a Gala on Saturday, April 11, 5-9pm at the St. John’s Community Center and the online auction kicks off April 1 with hundreds of items and runs the whole month until April 30.

The phrase “artificial inteligence or AI“ has become nearly impossible to avoid. It appears in news stories about job automation and fake videos, in advertisements for smart appliances, and in debates about the future. But what does it actually mean? And why should any of this matter to how we live our daily lives? Join us on Thursday, Feb.

Hillary Barone, Financial Wellness Specialist, Ancorum Credit Union, will teach us about common financial scams as well as discuss financial abuse of older adults by strangers or those known to us. You’ll also learn about what to do if someone has fallen for a scam, who to talk to, and what steps to take. Join us at our ‘Aging Well’ Lunch and Learn on Monday, Feb. 23 at 12:00 pm.

Dr. Christina Levesque, PT, DPT, is back for her famous Balance and Falls Clinic at the Center on Thursday, March 5 at 1:30 pm. She will teach us what balance means, how to prevent a fall, and how to properly handle a fall if one occurs – very important information! Free, open to the public. Call 729-0757 to register.

The 14th annual People Plus Senior Health Expo, in partnership with Spectrum Generations, was held at the Brunswick Recreation Center on Thursday, Oct. 9.

The Brunswick Area Teen Center celebrated its 20th Anniversary in June at its new location at the Coffin School Building in Brunswick. Roughly 75 people came out to celebrate the occasion, share cake, thank long time board and committee members and donors for their dedication and loyalty in creating a Teen Center program for Brunswick in 2005. 

We did it!!!! With your help, our month-long Music in April fundraising activities for People Plus were a record-breaking success!

People Plus’ newest club, PPUGS (People Plus Ukulele Club), meets the second Tuesday of each month, hopefully increasing to twice-monthly in the fall.

The 16th annual Brunswick Area Teen Center Scoop-a-thon fundraiser, held April 24, 2024 at Gelato Fiasco in Brunswick, raised $12,455 for the Teen Center – breaking the record for income and sponsorship! 

People Plus has created the Jordan Cardone-Ruwet scholarship to honor the former Brunswick Area Teen Center Coordinator who recently retired after 18 years of service and dedication to the Teen Center program. The award will provide funds of $500 annually for a graduating high school senior (who has been a member of the Teen Center), to be used for post-secondary education of their choice.
