People Plus has created the Jordan Cardone-Ruwet scholarship to honor the former Brunswick Area Teen Center Coordinator who recently retired after 18 years of service and dedication to the Teen Center program. The award will provide funds of $500 annually for a graduating high school senior (who has been a member of the Teen Center), to be used for post-secondary education of their choice.

The 12th annual People Plus Senior Health Expo, in partnership with Spectrum Generations, was held at the Brunswick Recreation Center at Brunswick Landing on Thursday, Oct. 19. Mark your calendars now for next year’s Expo on Thursday, Oct.

We are Introducing a new social club at the Center called People Plus “Bandstand!” Join this casual group to enjoy unstructured dancing and socializing to music from the 60s, 70s and 80s! Watch for future dates on our calendar! Free to members! Don’t forget your dancing shoes!

The 15th annual Brunswick Area Teen Center Scoop-a-thon fundraiser, held April 26 at Gelato Fiasco in Brunswick, raised more than $11,000 for the Teen Center – breaking all records! This included combined funds from Gelato Fiasco sales, donations, sales at Big Top Deli during the day, raffle ticket sales and many generous sponsorships. 

Bring your spinning wheel and join the new Fiber Spinning Club at People Plus on the 2nd and 4th Friday of every month, 10 am – 12:00 pm! Spinning is about using a spinning wheel or spindle to transform fiber, usually wool, into yarn to be used for knitting, crocheting, or weaving. It is also about getting together with like-minded people to enjoy camaraderie.

The Write On Writers group of People Plus released their 10th collaboration, We Write, at an Author’s Chat at the People Plus Center on Wednesday, November 9. 

Former People Plus staffer Frank Connors, trying to come up with “his” way to celebrate the 200th birthday of the Great State of Maine, decided it would be fun and informative to create a list of the 200 places and things that make Maine so “special.” His list debuted in our March 2020 People Plus Newspaper with this article.

The People Plus VTN (Volunteer Transportation Network) has shifted focus to keep homebound seniors well supplied. Normally, our drivers are taking participants to doctor appointments, physical therapy, grocery stores, hair appointments and more. Now our volunteer drivers are grocery shopping and getting prescriptions for area residents and members alike!
