Learn about the ins and outs of Charitable Giving opportunities including tax implications and planned giving, with Scott McLeod, founding principal at McLeod|Ascanio, a full-service accounting firm with offices in Cumberland Foreside and Brunswick. Discussion will include the economic and tax consequences of a variety of Charitable Giving opportunities.  Principally among these will be the use of Charitable Remainder Trusts, bunching of itemized tax deductions in light of the recent 2018 tax law changes, tax-advantaged distributions from IRAs as well the use of planned giving during life and afterwards. Scott McLeod is a founding principal at McLeod|Ascanio, a full-service accounting firm with offices in Cumberland Foreside and Brunswick.  Scott earned his MBA at Hofstra University and his Finance major Bachelor of Science degree at University of Maine. In 1982 he started his career in the accountancy profession in the Manhattan office of the international accounting firm of Arthur Andersen and Company. He remained there until September of 1988. As a tax manager and member of Arthur Andersen’s International Tax Team Scott assisted companies on a wide variety of transactional, business and tax issues. Scott returned to Maine in 1988 and continued his career at the Portland office of Coopers & Lybrand. In January of 1996 he became a founding principal in the accounting firm of McLeod|Ascanio. Although Scott’s client list changed from multinational corporations to Maine owned businesses, individuals and non-profit entities, Scott’s exposure to the demands, results and rewards of excellence that embody New York City have been permanently etched in his vision of client service. 

Scott is licensed to practice accountancy in Maine. He is a member of the AICPA and currently its Tax Section.  For many years he had also been a member of its Personal Financial Planning Section.
